I travel and learn languages whenever possible, while also engaging in new cultures, writing stories, eating great vegetarian food and exploring fashion. Stay tuned for weekly posts.
Travel and language learning give glimpses of how diverse our world is, yet shows us how connected we are. Other than English, I can speak Japanese, French, Spanish and Hindi, and random bits of various languages. I don’t speak them flawlessly, but I enjoy being able to communicate in them and I enjoy learning about their evolution. I aim to be more culturally aware and become a sort of jack of all trades of languages.
To this end, I’m currently studying for a BA in South and Southeast Asian Studies with a minor in African Dynamics at Leiden University in the Netherlands. I study various aspects of the region. I also did Sanskrit in my first two years. While I would love to do a degree on the whole world, that is impossible for obvious reasons. I do plan to learn about other regions in my spare time and after my BA.
Fashion and more visual creativity are equally important to me. I love modelling for different photographers and seeing how varied the pictures turn out. Experimenting with different types of fashion and global trends is fascinating!
Equally, I strongly believe neurodiversity is important! I have written a piece on TourettesHero about growing up with a mother with Tourettes and also a short story about it here on the blog! I’ve also written for Lazy women on the intersection hypersexualisation and sexual repression. Scroll down to see my work on other platforms. You can use the contact me page if you would like me to write for you!
If you’re curious, Yaska Sahara are my two first names. I tell people to use whichever they prefer, or both. Yaska is the name of an ancient mathematician and Sanskrit grammarian, best known to be the author of the Nirukta, a technical treatise on etymology and semantics of Sanskrit words. Sahara, of course, is a desert. It also has multiple meanings in various languages.
Just as I enjoy hearing unique anecdotes, I enjoy telling them. So, I decided to start a blog. I hope you enjoy it.
